New app offering real-time discounts at London restaurants

London’s foodies can cut their bills at more than 100 restaurants across the city with CityMunch. The app allows restaurants to connect with Londoners in real-time, instantly publishing simple, time-limited discount offers to customers’ smartphones.

CityMunch’s deals are designed to be straightforward: just a percentage off of the food bill for the entire table, no matter how many people are eating. There are no complicated terms and conditions to wade through and no upfront cost. Diners simply check the app for a nearby deal, reserve a voucher, arrive during the offer’s availability period and show their phone to staff.

The app’s time-specific deals benefit both parties – diners save money and restaurants fill seats when they need to. The new app that allows diners to claim real-time discounts of up to 50% off their restaurant …

Boots Opticians launches free clever eye check storybook

I take my children for eye checks every year, but I still love the idea of this neat, free, fun eye check storybook called Zookeeper Zoe that launched last week.

Up to 80 percent of what a child learns is through their sight, so this innovative book contains a range of interactive eye check activities to help understand if a child might need support with their vision. The book is also designed to remind families that all children should have a regular eye health check as research shows 53% of children2 have never had their eyes checked.

350,000 printed copies are being given away in Boots UK and Boots Opticians stores, so get your skates on and grab yourself a copy. It is also available as an interactive app and can be read online and …

Brand new Springwear collection at Aldi

So Aldi does bring out clothing throughout the year, from ski to workwear, and now Spring fashions. They call it a “transitional” wardrobe available in stores from 3rd March 2016. Offering quality and value, get the items while stocks last.

    FOR HER

For women, check out Aldi’s quality OTTOMAN JUMPER (£8.99) and WEEKEND SHIRT (£8.99) which are perfect for those brighter days when it’s still a bit breezey. The shirt is available in a casual checked or chambray design and can be worn with the versatile and lightweight ottoman jumper which available in a range of colours, guaranteed to please cash conscious fashionistas.

I was very impressed with the classic SKINNY JEANS for just £7.99 . They even came in a size 18 and had lots of stretch. For just under £8, you can’t go …

    Asda just got cheaper

Asda has announced cutting the price of 1,600 products below all rivals’ prices today. The supermarket is the third biggest in the UK after Tesco and Sainsbury’s, and suffered some abyssmal sales over Christmas time, so that’s the reason dear reader. sThe slide in sales was announced along the price cuts as Asda tries to win over shoppers from competitors, further fuelling the raging supermarket price war.

And good news for us, Asda said that today’s cuts are just the first of lots of price reductions worth £500million, including essentials like fruit and veg, cereal, milk, meat, eggs, fish, nappies and toilet rolls.

As well as fighting against the big boys the cuts will help it to compete with discounters Aldi and Lidl. The price cuts are called “Pocket More”.  As a fan of Aldi, …

Save up to £95 a year with new online Water Savings Calculator

A new online calculator to help save up to £95 on annual utility bills launches in February. The UK’s largest provider of water saving products and services, Save Water Save Money, has worked in partnership with nine of the UK’s leading water companies to develop the calculator which can accurately help households reduce their water and energy consumption.

On average, UK home owners use nearly 350 litres of water every day and up to 25% of energy bills is spent on heating water, so cutting down on water usage leads to reduced energy bills as well. The Water Savings Calculator, which takes no more than ten minutes to complete, provides you with a unique water usage report showing how much water, energy and money is going down the drain around your home and provides personalised …

easyFoodstore takes on Aldi, Poundland and Lidl – everything 25p intro offer

There’s a new discount store on the block. Founded by Stelios Haji-Ioannou, the brains behind easyJet, it will offer basic items, such as sugar, tea and sardines at ‘rock-bottom prices’.

As a fan of Poundland and Aldi, I am intrigued by the 25p grocer easyFoodstore. Launched in London only at the mo, the shelves are stacked with dried pasta, rice and tins.

The shops offers a range of basic items at ‘rock-bottom prices’, with an introductory promotion this month of just 25p for everything – including sugar, tea, sardines, tomato ketchup, peach slices and Jaffa Cakes.

There are no branded products and the store says that it offers ‘No expensive brands, just food honestly priced’. The 25p shop is part of a promotional month, but after that bosses say they could rise to around 50p!…

£20 voucher for returning your EE Power Bar charger

You may remember the great Power Bar rush last year, when EE gave all its customer a portable charger.  Well there were a few rogue chargers that overheated, but now the company is being cautious as they pose a safety risk and recalling ALL of its Power Bars and giving you a £20 voucher instead.

What do you need to do?

EE published a web page on 16 December explaining that it is recalling all of its Power Bars after it was discovered that they aren’t safe. “We’re recalling all EE Power Bars,” EE says on its website. “This is just a precaution, but we want to make sure all our customers are safe.”

They are taking the action as “we are aware of a very small number of further incidents where Power Bars …

Online bulk buying supermarket launches – BuyMucho

BuyMucho.com is launching on 19th October – it’s a new bulk buy club, offering over 1,300 branded grocery items, ordered online and delivered to your door. Sort of like Costco on speed, so it’s open to everyone, no restrictions as to member’s background and home delivery. All you have to do is go to the website and register… it’s really as easy as that! Users will then be chosen from the pool of people registered and then have access to all their favourite brands.

As the service has just launched the registered users will be limited to a geographic location to begin with (the South – East first). Eventually, all users will be able to purchase, as locations will go live in batches. The more people that sign up in a certain area the quicker …

Aldi’s new bedroom, bathroom and home ranges

So if you were in Aldi today, you should have seen the first of their new ranges of bedroom, bathroom and home accessories. Bathroom items were in store today.

They have Egyptian Cotton Bath Towels (£4.99). I tried out a couple and the value is good, especially with the larger towels. While they are 100% cotton, they are more functional than luxurious, as they aren’t super fluffy, but frankly those towels take longer to dry in my opinion. The Egyptian Cotton Bath Sheet is £6.99 and the Hand Towel is £2.99.  I got the blue, but saw cream in the store too and there is a range of colours.

The bedroom range comes in next Thursday and I got a sneak peak of the photographic duvet set (from £9.99), an on-trend winter-themed bedding set, available …

New app for forecasting energy bills

Wouldn’t it be great if you could see your energy consumption on an app…in money terms?

Well lucky npower customers can do that. The energy provider has launched a new consumer app which can help you to forecast your bills. Available for both Android and IOS platforms, the app’s  most distinguishing feature, the timeline, is an industry first (according to them).

The app enables npower customers to better handle their energy accounts – and so their finances – with improved and more intuitive account management. Features include:

    • Unique timeline function to see past and future consumption, account events and payments
    • Ability to submit meter readings
    • View a history of bills, payments and meter reads
    • Online chat facilities to help customers with queries

The npower app is available for customers to download from the Apple …
