    Refurbishment on a budget

Here are just some of the bargains that I have picked up for the refurb I mentioned a while back.

The front door is tiny, so the only way to get sofas in is through a window or build them in the house. We took the second option so turned to second hand Nabru sofas. Nabru is a cool brand of sofas that can fit into any space. The sofas new would have cost me close to £700 and we even managed to pick the green one up in our car! You can pick up sofas much, much cheaper especially on Facebook, but size and getting into the space is a problem for me. These sofas can be disassembled easily, you can reassemble them super quickly and you can buy new covers for them from …

    Bargain Mother’s Day gift ideas

I love my mum, she’s a little crazy but definitely makes me smile, and I hope that’s how my kids feel about me. So it’s that time of year to start thinking about nice things to get for your mum or the mother figure in your life. Here are some of my faves:

    Modular storage for handbags

This neat modular handbag store comes complete with two different hanging hooks allowing for use inside the wardrobe or over a door and is the most effective handbag storage solution I’ve come across in many years. It’s from A Place for Everything (I bought a gorgeous shoe cabinet from them that still gets admiration a few years later), so they sell some nice stuff. The bag storage is £18.

    Artificial flowers for £1

These are perfect maybe if …

9 ways to make your grocery shopping cheaper

From cash back apps, to making lists, here are some tips to making your grocery shopping cheaper.

Plan ahead and write a list

This is such a common sense piece of advice, but it works. Planning meals for the week ahead, checking what you already have and writing a list of what you need will increase your chances of only buying what you need and preventing overspending.

    Use a supermarket comparison site

Mysupermarket.com is an independent site that allows users to shop across 9 stores to optimise their grocery shop. It does a lot of number crunching and analysis of information that it gathers, and that raw data is turned into digestible information that customers can use each time they shop.

Use cashback sites to redeem cash on everyday shopping

The UK’s two major cashback …

Travel Lodge Greenwich review – bargain hotel easily accessible for central London

Late last year, Travel Lodge contacted me and offered me an opportunity to try out one of their newly refurbished hotel rooms, so for a spot of Xmas shopping I tried out the hotel in Greenwich in December. The room would have cost me around £80, which is great value for a double in London.

With a luxurious Sleepeeze Dreamer bed that has over 950 pockets springs, the bed was the first plus. The hotel offered all the basics at very reasonable prices. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The hotel had clean and comfortable rooms, with a small but modern ensuite good breakfast and room service when needed and a sensibly-designed building, which was easy to get around.

There was a big flat screen tv in the room but I didn’t try any of …

    Mrs Bargain visits Home Bargains

I visited Home Bargains for the first time this weekend. When I walked in it was a light and airy store as it’s new. It reminded me a little of the 99p store I visited recently.

What did I like about it? Well some products that were well below their RRP and they were genuine RRPs as I buy some of the products already. I also liked the fact that you could get bigger items and better quality items as there is no upper price limit on their stock, unlike the pound stores.

For example, I got some of my favourite Glade Discreet air freshener refills for £1.49, and I have never seen them cheaper than £2 each. I also bought an Office Depot Acrylic clipboard for less than £1, when the cheapest I …

Kitting out the kitchen doesn’t have to cost the earth. There’s plenty of high street alternatives if you shop around – I have just come across Appliances Direct who have 50% off all juicers as well as fantastic long term savings on an array of appliances including the new ElectrIQ range.

    ElectrIQ HSL600 Horizontal Slow Juicer – £64.97 (Was: £129.97, saving £65.00)

The new Horizontal Slow Juicer ensures you get the most from your fruit and vegetables and cold presses fruits, vegetables, grasses and leafy greens as well as creating delicious nut milks. Wood burning products – Aldi Special buys

What with record numbers of permits being issued for domestic wood collection , it seems that wood burners are a real option to reducing energy bills.

And check out this statistic to support the trend – according to David Spencer at the Stove Industry Alliance, 180,000 wood-burners were installed last year, with close to one million homes in Britain now having one. The National Association of Chimney Sweeps says business has increased 40 per cent over the past couple of years as a result of this stove mania!!!

With the wood burning stove trend growing, Aldi’s new addition – Wood Burning Range – is well timed. The new range has everything you’ll need to prepare your own fuel and keep your wood burner going as we approach the winter months.

You know the price is …

High street brands with eBay outlets

Some well known brands also sell on eBay. Often they’ll be selling at the same price as in store, but there are also some well known retailers with eBay outlets that sell only discounted stock.

Let me know of ones you use in the comments below and in the meantime, here are the ones I was most impressed with:

    Canon

“Great deals on refurbished Canon products, including digital & compact cameras, EF lenses, camcorders, printers, projectors & binoculars.”

    Christopher Wray Lighting

“Retailing returned products and end of line stock at vastly discounted prices. All stock items are in perfect condition except where specified with details & photos of any defects.”

    Dyson

“Through this outlet we’re offering a selection of refurbished and end of line Dyson vacuum cleaners for you to purchase directly from us with …
