£100 off mens suit at House of Fraser

Does your man need a new suit and have House of Fraser on the list of shops to consider? Well bring in an old suit (jacket and trousers in good condition and suitable to wear to a job interview) and House of Fraser will give you a £100 voucher to spend in store on a new suit.

Men of the UK are being asked to surrender their old suits for a good cause. Whether they are a little tighter than they used to be or it’s just time for an upgrade, men can donate their unwanted threads at House of Fraser stores as part of the Suited & Booted campaign. The donated suits will go to vulnerable men, kitting them out in style for job interviews, while customers will snap up a £100 voucher to …

Bank holiday offers – alfresco entertaining from Alfresia

So it’s the last bank holiday till Christmas and I’m going to look for some bargains. I want to replace some garden furniture, but I want quality at a good price.

I’ve found Alfresia – an online retailer that sells attractive garden, conservatory and patio furniture direct to the public. These are some of the things that are in their sale.

Sienna Garden Furniture Set (Now £129.99, was £229.99)

Made of hardwood and with a classic design this table and chair set will compliment any patio or dining area. It also folds away for easy storage when the outdoor entertaining season comes to a close. That’s a £100 saving and 43% discount.

Matterhorn 2 Burner Gas Barbecue (Now £129.99, was £179.99) With long life cast iron burners, a grill plate and griddle, this barbeque …

5 ways to save money on energy bills while you’re away

Don’t pay for utilities (energy) that you aren’t using while you’re on holiday. While some of us have been on holiday, others are yet to go. Whether you will be in another country, off to a festival or even a staycation in the UK, here are some tips to reduce energy consumption while you’re away.

Now you know that I don’t have much time, with a full time job, kids, household to run, so why reinvent the wheel? I found these great tips from home efficiency experts Zenith Home.  Making these small changes will ensure your bills are at a minimum when you are out and about on holiday.

    1.       Give your fridge a break too

Your fridge is most energy efficient when it is stocked up but for most of us, prior to …

    10 home made beauty products

If you’re looking to save some money on expensive beauty products, then you will be surprised to know that you can make your own DIY products from items in your cupboards at home, and for a fraction of the price you’d pay in the shops. Take a look at the following tips for inspiration.

    1.      Homemade body scrub

Mix 1 cup of sugar (not salt as this will burn the skin) with 2tbsp of olive oil of grape seed oil and mix together in a bowl. Apply to the skin in circular motions for the best affect!

    2.     Smooth legs

Use conditioner or baby oil instead of soap or shaving cream on your legs for an extra smooth affect.

    3.      Homemade Face Wash

Mix 2 teaspoons of baby wash, 2 tablespoons water, 2 tablespoons glycerine …

    Great value new in-shower products

I wanted to share the three items that are currently my favourite things to use in the shower – they are all relatively new to the market. They are Aldi Lacura shower face washes and scrubs, Nivea in-shower moisturisers and Elvive’s new thickening shampoo and conditioners.

Basically they are all beauty and grooming products that save me time in the morning and are good value.

    Lacura facial washes and scrub

As I walked past the toiletries in Aldi I saw the Lacura’s Gentle Face Wash Gel. Since the cost of the face wash is so low – £1.29 for 150 ml – I thought what the heck and bought one, even though my skin has had a bad experience with a Lacura moisturiser (granted it was a few years ago.)

    A little goes a long …

Holiday home rentals vs hotel rooms

I like staying in hotels, but am considering a holiday apartment this year. I have done some digging and found a comparison of holiday apartment prices vs hotel room prices.

Dubrovnik, Cannes and Palma de Mallorca offer the biggest savings per night, with a one-bed  apartment in Dubrovnik being on average £79 cheaper than a typical hotel room.

Apartments are appealing as they are bigger than hotel rooms, often come with kitchens and laundry facilities, have a separate room for kids and you can bring pets sometimes. However, the other side of me is saying, I can head down to the restaurant, there is room service and someone will clean my bathroom every day in a hotel. It’s a tough choice.

To help my decision making I’m using this holiday apartment Price Index that a …

Mrs Bargain Hunter’s visit to Sparkhill

I needed 10 meters of fabric, but from £8 a meter at John Lewis, I was looking at £80, so decided to head to Sparkhill to pick up fabric, spices, party gear and more.

Sparkhill is an Asian area in Birmingham. Around the country, there are plenty of predominantly Asian areas, from Brick Lane and Southall in London to Rusholme in Manchester.

What they all have in common is bright colours, crazy smells and a whole load of bargains.

If you are sensitive about clean side streets, these areas are not for you.

My main reason for going was fabrics. The fabric shops are fantastic. I got fabric for £2.50 – £3 per metre, rather than from £8 in John Lewis. You get a wide choice at really good prices. Also, anything to do with …

18 simple Life Tips to save money and make life easier

One of my favourite Twitter feeds at the moment is @lifetipseasy. I love the practical and really simple tips and quite a few of them are about saving money or using alternative (cheaper) products to fix a problem, and some are even just simply genius.

Here are my favourite tips at the moment from the feed:

    1. Measure one of your fingers and memorise the length – now you have an instant ruler.

    2. Reduce nail polish clumping by running the polish bottle under hot water for 40-50 seconds.

    3. Take a picture of your fridge on your phone, you’ll never struggle to remember what you need to buy at the grocery store!

    4. Apples are more powerful than caffeine at helping you stay awake.

    5. Want whiter teeth? Gently rub the inside of …

£2 products – Glade refills and 14 birthday cards

In Sainsbury’s today, they had Glade Discreet refills for £2 each. Normally they are anything from £2.80 – £3.00, so I stocked up.

I do like this air freshener as it smells good and is….discreet. I prefer it to overwhelming plug-ins, spray or shriveled up gel air freshener. It lasts up to 60 days and we have one in the hall and another in the lounge. I bought the refills for the two Glade Discreet Decor units I have, as they just blend in easily. There are another three types of base unit that you can choose from, including a plug in. Here are the flavours of refill I bought (clean linen and Bali sandalwood and jasmine) and my actual unit.

I also bought 14 cards for a whopping £2. I nipped into the Card …

    Online poundshops – Poundshop.com vs Hereforapound.com a comparison

I recently compared online supermarkets, so I thought I would take a look at the new online pound shops. At the beginning of February, there was a media buzz around the new online discount stores. The major contenders were Poundshop.com, Hereforapound.com and Pound Panda. Now Pound Panda seems to have already exited the ring and its site is still down, so I decided to focus on the other two. My summary of pros and cons and my first impressions are below.

I have to admit that with two Pound Land shops within walking distance of my house (I am really lucky ;-)), I am not that tempted to shop online, however, for those that have to drive into town or want to buy a stack of stuff and use public transport, or for those …
