Aldi now the UK’s sixth-largest supermarket chain
Aldi is now bigger than Waitrose to become the UK’s sixth-largest supermarket chain by market share.
The German chain increased sales by 16.8% in the 12 weeks to 29 March, according to Kantar Worldpanel (consumer panel research firm). That figure took Aldi’s share of the market up to 5.3%, compared with 5.1% for Waitrose.
Aldi is celebrating its 25th anniversary in the UK and has enjoyed rapid sales growth due to the recession, high-quality products and fab special buys (IMHO).
Aldi has confirmed plans to quadruple the number of its stores in London, with nine new outlets including a second trial of a convenience-style outlet in Tooting. The group has 560 stores in Britain and wants 1,000 by 2022.
Some commentators believe discounters could in future control as much as 20% of the UK market. …

All you need to know about Brantano
Like most women, I love shoes. Pretty shoes, comfy boots, gorgeous strappy sandals…there’s so much choice around. Clarks has been a long-time staple for the kids, but I am shoe shop agnostic and will shop whereever there is a gorgeous shoe.
However, one shop that I have passed by on many occasion and not ventured into is Brantano. Unfortunately, I have mistakingly understood it to be full of cheap tat…oh how wrong was I?
Brantano caters for men, women and kids. They also have lots of great brands available, ranging from Adidas trainers, rieker, Skechers and Hush Puppies to budget yet beautiful Emilio Luca X high heels. Better yet, when you shop online they offer free delivery on any spend over £20 – so that’s most shoes!
I like the idea of Brantano because …

Asda online shopping – a review
I wanted to try out a few different online grocery shopping experiences and now it’s Asda’s turn. I have booked my £2.50 delivery at Sunday lunchtime for 2 – 4 pm on Monday.
Asda states that it has over 1,000 discounted items so I was keen to get my bargain grocery shopping underway. I ordered over £133 worth of shopping across 82 items. I managed to buy about £33 on offers, the rest of my shop was full price.
Here’s what I thought of the experience.
Positive
1. More expensive replacements were provided when an item wasn’t available.
2. They have nice quality and variety across their own ranges.
3. Fantastic delivery slot availability.
Negative
1. Alphabetically arranged items when I shoppped on my mobile, not sure if that works, as I saw Chinese, then …

Online grocery shopping experience – Morrisons
I’ve been a bit unwell since December and have had to resort to online shopping. I have used Tesco for a while and thought that as Morrisons came out top in my latest online grocery shopping comparison (on paper), I had better try it out in person. Here are the good and bad points:
Good things about shopping at Morrisons online
1. I seemed to get more value for money
My shop was 75 items and cost just over £100, whereas 74 items from Tesco were £173 just before Xmas with lots of vouchers. I know that I haven’t done a like for like comparison, but I pretty much buy the same things every week, so the shop was cheaper.
2. There were lots of discounted products clearly visible
Right up front on the site, …
