An app that manages your loyalty cards – Loyalive

I have over 15 loyalty cards, so when I recently stumbled upon an app called Loyalive while having a look round the App store, I was a very happy bunny.

It’s a useful addition to any savvy-shoppers phone – storing all your loyalty cards in one place so you can finally empty your purse of unnecessary plastic. The app also helps with keeping track of points and makes it really easy to check what you’re entitled to – anything from vouchers to a mini-break. Plus it’s free to download on iPhone and Android.

While I do collect points, I don’t religiously check my balance, so I had no idea I had been building up so many points over the last few years – £35 on Nectar points which I promptly spent!

    Sometimes I feel that …

What on earth is Qwiddle? It’s an online piggybank.

Qwiddle launched in 2014 with a clear objective – to teach children about good money habits. As an online piggybank, Qwiddle is powered by PayPal and lets children manage their pocket money in a safe environment.

Qwiddle is free and empowers children by giving them a degree of independence with their money helping them to learn about spending or saving, under their parent’s supervision. It is designed to help children aged between 8-15 years learn good money skills in the increasingly cashless society we live in.

Each child has their own Qwiddle PayPal account – which is owned and controlled by parents – where they can:

    • Make online payments using PayPal’s robust infrastructure – all payments must be supervised by the parent
    • Set goals for the things they want – a kickback against impulse spending

Do NOT accept your insurance renewal letter – I saved £98

I have been insured with esure for a few years and have built up a 12 year+ no claims discount, so when I received my car insurance renewal letter, it languished on my desk for a few days and then I called them to renew.

We had a lovely chat about any changes to my circumstances and then the nice gentleman gave me the renewal price – £272. Mmmmh, so chancing my arm, as I can’t resist, I reminded him of my no claims discount, loyalty to the firm and how annoying it was that my premium had gone up by £4 over the last year. Here was, in my opinion, his opportunity to give me some money off….even £10 would have made me more inclined not to take an alternative route…….but no – no …

Mystery shopping – money off your shopping, dining out, travel and much more

I have recently become a mystery shopper, with a free eye test and some money for going to a jewellers so far. There are so many assignments that I could have had free lunches and money off train tickets, but I simply can’t take every job.

Anyway, this is the mystery shopping firm I work with – Market Force Information. To get the gigs, you have to fill in a complex form, where they check that you have a good standard of English and then before each job, you have to ensure that you understand the brief and they check that you do via an online questionnaire, so it’s not that easy becoming a mystery shopper, but if you qualify, it’s worth it.

Market Force Information says it is Europe’s leading customer intelligence solutions provider …

Men trump women when it comes to money saving (apparently)

I saw the results of an interesting survey today…. and I had a good laugh at them. Men are better at saving money than women, apparently. Not in my house they aren’t! But then again, are we women more tempted to spend money on frivolous shopping sprees and guys really only get what they need? Our smaller purchases may lead to more money spent than our fellas, who make a few big purchases a year….

The comments about Londoners being best at saving is probably because they are desperately saving for the huugggge deposits needed to buy any property there. I also know plenty of people who run out of money before pay day, and who don’t even have a handle on their finances, so can relate to the points the survey results cover.

    Anyway, …
