New budget beauty brand – up the Makeup Revolution

The 200 item Makeup Revolution range is now available at Superdrug online.

Priced at £1 – £12 per item, there is lots to choose from, including items for eyes, lips, face and nails.

My favourite products include some very pretty 12 shade eye palettes, which cost £4, which is awesome value compared to leading brands priced at over £30.

Makeup Revolution also has a £4 foundation in 16 shades to match different skin tones.

The most expensive item is a 100 colour eye shadow palette at £12, but the rest of the items are even cheaper. Here’s a sample of products so you can get an idea of prices:

    Amazing Lip Care – 5 shades, £3 Kajal Liner – 1 shade, £2 Amazing Eye Liner (liquid) – £1.50 Awesome Metal Eye Foils – 5 …

L’Occitane are so generous with freebies

I love L’Occitane en Provence products since discovering while on holiday in France.

The company’s hand wash in Verbena smells so devine and Mr BH and I see it as a big treat. At £18 for 500 ml (eeks) it is a very pricey hand wash. But refills are a tenner at Bicester village though and on eBay and it lasts ages.

I like their soaps too, but again they aren’t cheap. I do find that Soak and Sleep do a similar soap range that cost less.

Anyway, I think that L’Occitane are generous with their freebies. I have today picked up a week’s trial of its Creme Devine face cream, so seven sachets of cream. All I had to do was fill in a form and pick up the sample from a L’Occitane store. …

Aldi Lacura antiperspirants and deodorants perfect for teen boys

So me and my mum friends have been talking about smelly pre-teen and teen boys, and debating what to offer them to stop the smell.

Of course washing is a great basic step, but two showers a day is one too many, so products must be purchased.

As a teen, I remember buying Impulse, but that’s not an option. So first step was a deodorant and next an anti-perspirant. Lynx sprang to mind immediately and there are always offers on for it, but I wouldn’t be called Mrs BH if I wasn’t going to find an alternative that does the job just as well without costing as much.

I did some research and didn’t like the idea of the boys wearing anti-perspirant so early, so decided on an anti-perspirant for extra hot or activity filled …

Reviews of anti-snoring devices….sleep is priceless

I haven’t had eight hours sleep for a few years now and so enough was enough and I started my quest to find snoring aids to help Mr BH stop snoring and me to get some sleep.

Now his snoring is serious. A few years back before we met, he had an operation which helped, but the effects have worn off. The thought of going under general anesthetic to prevent snoring was too dangerous and the £2,000 cost also ruled the operation out.

Of course, I am always looking out for a bargain, but sometimes, you have to spend money to get a really good result and in this case, money was secondary to sleep. Here’s our round-up. Good luck if you have the same problem.

    Good Night Snoring Ring

Now this ring is fantastic …

    Teeth whitening on a budget

A few years back, I started noticing that my teeth were going a bit yellow. Now my teeth are naturally straight so I was happy about how they looked, but the yellowing was bugging me, so I checked out how to make them look better and this is what I found:

    The “natural” and cheapest approach

I saw a really fascinating teeth whitening video recently on YouTube, where a young lady used bicarbonate soda and lemon juice and brushed her teeth with that once a week for lovely white teeth. Now that should come in at around 50 p or less a week, which feels like a real bargain.

    The dentist option

I turned to my dentist and he offered me laser or molds and gels. I took the cheaper option, so he made me …

    Men’s and boy’s haircut for £5 – Kings Barbers

I get miffed that haircuts for my boys cost £10.25 at weekends and £8.75 on week days, so today we popped into Kings on the High Street in Solihull.

They are doing all cuts for £5. Of course, it’s an introductory offer, but for boys it goes up to £7 when the offer finishes, so that is still a nice cheap haircut. The barber didn’t know when the £5 offer will finish, but it got me through the door and was half what I would pay normally, so I was happy enough.

There was a family in there with three boys and a dad so that must cost a bit every month, so Kings must be welcome on the high street for them and many others.

The barbers is open and airy with five stations. …

8 tips to looking richer than you really are

I get annoyed when people, especially in posh shops judge me by my appearance. Once the assistant knows that I am not there to window shop, their attitude changes.

I have enough friends and I know that judging on appearances is wrong, so I should walk out, but in the end, snooty shop assistants are there to serve me, whether they like the look of me or not. In the short term, snooty shop assistants will always exist, so sometimes, when I can be bothered, I have learnt some basics to get better treatment (which includes getting free make up and beauty product samples;-)) anywhere.

    1. Get a good haircut – basically looking well groomed is one key to looking like you have more than you really do. Go your local beauty school to get …

    Quit smoking and save loads

In my 20s I used to smoke, but Mr BH said it’s either me or the fags, so I gave up. As well as the health risks, smoking costs a small fortune. Check out this handy Smoking Calculator from the NHS to see how much money you could save by giving up. The image above is the saving for someone smoking 20 a day.

I figured that plenty of you will be looking to quit smoking around this time of year, so as I don’t smoke, I asked my friend, who has just given up, to give me the low down on how she is coping and saving money. I was offered some free electric cigarettes, and gave them to her, so she’s even given feedback on them.

“If, like me, your New Year resolution …

8 tips for losing weight and getting fit as cheaply as possible

Feeling fat? I am. Now I am a lady who knows the theory of weight loss, but often fails to put it into practice!

Anyway, I have tried lots of ways to lose weight, from high-fiber tablets to suppress my appetite, to the 5:2 diet, Weight Watchers, a dietician..you name it, I’ve tried it.

Basically, you have to put less in your mouth and move more. There’s nothing more to it, but of course, it’s harder said than done, so I have some tips for you to make this happen.

Get Weightwatchers or Slimming World for free

Ask your doctor to refer you. He’ll give you a number and you can get 12 weeks free. If your BMI isn’t high enough, or he thinks you having been trying to lose weight, ask to see a …
